«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 302 of 302Red Cross Blood Donation
Date Completed: March 23, 2010
Never have I felt so weak and disabled in my entire life due to a medical operation. Our school blood drive was a perfect opportunity for me to give back to my community by donating my clean blood. Despite the needles I was actually excited to be a part of this donation, but I soon found out that my little body structure is actually not suited to being so giving.
On the day of the drive I made well certain that I had plenty to drink and had eaten a good breakfast. I read every piece of material carefully and was processed quickly until the nurses who were actually taking the blood looked at me and discussed whether they would take my blood. Apparently I looked too skinny, but they decided to stick a needle in me anyways. Those needles are so big! It’s been almost a month and I still have the scar to prove my donation!
Anyways, only a few minutes after I was hooked up to donate, I started feeling lightheaded. Mind you, I was still laying down and I was starting to get sick. They quickly took me off the needle and I tried to sit up, but was unable to for quite a while due to the blood loss. My body just couldn’t handle it. Three hours and a few sips of water later I was finally able to get stand and walk slowly off of the blood bus to go to the canteen. I want to give blood again, even though my new experience wasn’t the greatest, but I have decided that I won’t unless I gain at leat 20 pounds. Despite the pain of the needle I persisted and stayed committed to giving blood and I certainly increased my awareness of what my body can and can’t take. It is so important that people all over the world have clean blood to receive when they are in need.

High Ropes Course With Orchestra
Date Completed: April 13, 2010
On the Sunny day of April 13 I was given my first opportunity to navigate a very complex and strange obstacle. High Ropes, steel staples, and beam poles galore I found myself amidst the first ropes course advantage in my life. Never before then had I even had the chance to climb a wall with the proper equipment at carnivals, so this all was very new to me.
Before the activity we were given instructions to put harness like restraints around our hips and legs and we were taught out to successfully clamp and release steel clips that are called carabineers. The carabineers are simply connections from our rope harnesses to steel cables and staples that were abundant on the ropes course. Before we went up in the air, however, we were taught to call out for transfers to moderator that would both be on the ground and on the ropes course with us. Whenever we wished to transfer from cable to another, we were instructed to say our name, then the word transfer, and then the name of our moderator. If a moderator was ready to assist in our transfer they would repeat our request back and insist that we clip only one carabineer at a time. As we did that, we had to yell out “First Carabineer,” then, “ Second Carabineer.” After making a successful transfer we were asked to safety check our ropes and carabineers and were then allowed to continue through our chosen obstacle.
By verbally transferring and being assisted verbally we were best able to insure our safety throughout the 30 foot high-off-the-ground course. It sure is a good thing that I’m not afraid of heights!
When we decided that we had had enough we were instructed to make our way to the exit point from the course. There was a swing that we could use to get off and there was also a zip line. Most of my orchestra buddies, with whom I completed this course, chose the zip line as their preferred exit. One must be connected to the zip and then fall from a platform for both exits. The ropes are what keep the person from falling to the ground.
This certainly was a new challenge for me as I have never been strapped into ropes and cords in order to navigate a ropes course. The closest I have ever been to doing something similar was when I had physical education classes in middle school and there was a rock wall painted on the gym wall that we were allowed to climb. I must say that I never did get very far. In attempting to navigate the course I found that I was often restricted in my areas of travel due to the amount ofpeople that were in the air at one time. I found myself assisting others with their gear and advising them with balance issues by using my knowledge of horseback riding to help me assist them. However, I soon found out that a ropes course requires more upper body strength than I have, so I was a little sore the day after, but not too much. It was a fun new experience and I certainly hope I get to try again soon.

Scottish Highland Games
Date Completed: October 18, 2009
Celtic Music playing beautifully in the background both of the times that I had the chance to learn an pass along my knowledge of Scottish history. Twice annually in Georgia the Scottish Highland Games come to both Blairsville and Stone Mountain. The Games attract musicians, jewelers, strong men and green learners, like me. Although the Games themselves are hosted for big men in kilts to show their strength, educational shows are hosted to show the guests a more well-rounded part of Scottish culture.
As a participant in the educational aspect of the Games, I found myself dressed in traditional Celtic garb with a fiddle in hand and a tune to play. In order to promote the lectures of the Wild Highlanders, who travel and give Celtic lessons, I found myself walking the grounds of the games encouraging others to come and learn about the fascinating things they were seeing. Due to our flamboyant and very different style of clothing, my boyfriend and I were often stopped for pictures with guests. I have to say a man doesn’t look half bad in a kilt. In fulfilling my obligation as a fiddler and an active participant with the Wild Highlanders Clan, I have increased my own awareness of my abilities to fiddler versus play classical violin pieces. I have also, and most importantly, had the chance to increase my awareness of the culture from which I originate. By playing in front of eager onlookers with the restraints of a Celtic corset, I have faced new challenges in performing. And, in collaboration with a Clan that has nearly accepted me without due process, I have engaged in the global importance of promoting culture acceptance and exploration.

Scuba Diving Classes
Date Finalized: February 6, 2009
Just around winter time of last year I found myself budding into a short new direction in my life. I was surrounded by water and air bubbles, was strapped to a very awkward tank of air, and I was completely out of my element. I was taking advantage of the opportunity to learn the sport of Scuba diving and teach myself the value of experiencing new challenges despite the fear of drowning.
The process of learning how to acclimate my body by clearing my ears and floating certain ways within the water was as terrifying as it was interesting. I was able to increase my understanding of my ability to swim but at the same time I also came to the realization of how out of shape I was (and still am to some extent). Being a very huge equine enthusiast, I found out that the act of defying water is definitely not like riding a horse. Despite my nervousness every time I entered the water, I pursued the course and stayed committed to completing my indoor water certification. Being allowed to attempt this feat by way of a gift from a close friend’s family, I was given the opportunity to pursue something that I most certainly would not have attempted alone.
This activity was completed in three private sessions by January 30, 2009. By this time I had learned two different snorkel moves that would allow me to maneuver quietly through the water and I had also learned several different diving techniques that would allow me to safely enter the water with all of my gear from a boat. During spring break of last year I attempted to complete my outdoor water certification. Unfortunately I was no longer able to let my mind rule over matter and I also had the worst sinus infection which made underwater breathing nearly impossible. As a result, I hung up my snorkel and have not gone back to the hobby again. I do not know if I will ever again attempt it, but I am grateful for having been allowed the opportunity to try.

Name: Math Competition at GA Tech
Hours: 9
Category: Action
During my senior years, I had a chance to be on the math team and this activity was my very first math competition at a college. It was fantastic over since I've learned so much stuff which I did not know before. through this activity, I hoped to seek out new knowledge and apply them in whatever math skills I already possess. It was challenging since the math problems were difficult and I did not know a lot of it. I did not do well as I was expected; but I discussed with my teammates and other participants after the tests to understand the problems and it was worth coming here to compete with other clever students. I've also learned how to be patient and open to a new methods of solving math problems. In this activity, my teammates as well as my teacher helped me a lot. My teacher gave me questions that similar to the tests before hand to practice and it was helpful; my friends also encouraged me to seek the best ways to solve the problems. This activity showed me that there are people like me who also want to travel to the knowledge-seeking voyage to perfectize themselves to give back to life. This excited me because I've learned that we, the younger generation, can make a different, can make this world a better place, by our power of wisdom, knowledge, and determination.
Outcomes met: 1,4,5,6,and 8
my 19th journal concluded all my CAS hours. I thank you for whoever helped me with this and it was nice to try something different.
Thanks
FINAL ESSAY BLOG
Completing CAS activities has been an eye opening and life changing experience. It was an incredible journey of self discovery. I learned selflessness, servanthood, and how to humble myself. I had a tendancy to choose more service projects than action or creativity. I love to serve. I love the feeling of service.
I had the opportunity to work with some great knowledgable people who lead me and taught me many things. When I was cleaning my church I learned that drudge work does not always have to be a drag, it can be fun. Its not what you do, its who you do it with that determines if you have fun.
I gained more respect for world cultures and their music with my 11th grade Spring concert. I also learned how to be greatful for all that I have because I learned just how poor some foreign countries are. I am very grateful for my experience with CAS and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Title: Coach Help U-4 Team
Date Completed: November 2009
Action, Service
Total Hours: 10
Targeted Learning Outcomes:
2. undertaken new challenges
3. planned and initiated activities
4. worked collaboratively with others
8. developed new skills
At the soccer field next to the school there are recreational teams that play there. The youngest teams are the Under 4 (U-4) teams. There are a lot of children and the coaches need help. I would go up there and organize activities for the children to do that would help them better their soccer skills.
During this experience I hoped to accomplished a better sense of what it takes to run an entire team. There was so much time management for the team and the activities.
I was very successful in achieving my goals. There were a few obstacles, because running around with 4 year olds in hard with their short attention spans. It war hard sometimes to get them to listen and I couldn't run activities for very long because the kids would get bored with it.
Through this experience I learned that I have a lot more patience than I thought I had. I've also learned the importance of learning things while you're young. The kids have so much energy, and they're such a joy to be around!
Mr. Nigel Grant really helped me with this process. He guided me through which activities would be best and when to do them. He was great in guiding me.
This activity benefited the children and their parents. It helped the children because they were starting to live a healthier lifestyle right now, and hopefully that would carry-on into their adolescent and adult lives. I believe it also benefited their parents because they liked to see their children being active and healthy.
Next time, I would have liked to do more with the children and have more time to do those activities.
I can most definitely apply the new found patience I didn't know I had to my life. Being patient with people is something that goes a long way in life. Not only that, but running around with the children has made me want to live a healthier lifestyle as well.

Title: Green Day 2009
Date Completed: September 2009
Creativity, Action, Service
Total Hours: 10
Targeted Learning Outcomes:
3. planned and initiated activities
4. worked collaboratively with others
6. engaged with issues of global importance
7. considered the ethical implications of actions
Green Day at the soccer field is an event that is held annually to promote a healthier environment by doing activities such as recycling and car-pooling or walking. During Green Day I passed out water, painted faces, and raised awareness for a healthier earth.
During this activity I hoped to accomplish awareness raised for the environment. Doing everything people can to reduce the effect of pollution means a lot to me. We only have one earth and once its gone, we can't get it back. It was important to raise awareness and have people commit to a greener earth.
I was somewhat successful in fulfilling my goals. There was some challenge because not everyone who came to the Green Day event was open to what the program was about. They were there to have fun and NOT listen to what the day was really about. I found that frustrating, but in the end I found it better to get through to a few that trying to get through to someone who isn't open to listen.
This activity made me realize that I am really passionate about the environment. Not only that, but I've developed a better sense of appreciation for the earth and for the plants and animals that inhabit it.
My friend, Taylor Grant and her father, Nigel Grant helped me with this learning experience. They were there for when I needed help and telling me the best way to approach situations and people. This was my very first Green Day, and they helped so much.
This activity benefited others because it helped them realize the things that they could do as far as helping the earth become greener. It was simple things like car-pooling or walking that could help make a big difference.
Next time I would like to have a lot more information on what people could do to help the environment. It would make Green Day an even bigger success.
What I've learned at Green Day I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Telling people about the environment and what they can do to help is really something they could use and I could continue to use. There's nothing better than a Green Planet.
Hello my name is Taylor and I am a senior at Lovejoy High school and the reason that I am posting is to blog for my cas hours required but IB.

Title: Coach Help U-8, boys
Date Completed: November 2009
Creativity, Action
Total Hours: 10
Targeted Learning Outcomes:
3. planned and initiated activities
4. worked collaboratively with others
5. show perseverance and commitment in activities
This activity was a continuation of Coach Help for the U-4 team, only this time I got to help out the U-8 boys team. It was a very fun. I basically did the same thing that I did with the younger team, but the drills we did were "tougher".
This time around I hoped to accomplish a closer relationship with this team and have more fun running drills and helping them stay active.
I was very successful in achieving the goals. At first it was harder to reach out to the boys because they were trying to be tough and wouldn't let me in. Over time though we developed a mutual trust in each other and I was happy to get to know them. Running drills was a bit harder because the boys did not like to run, but with a little encouragement I got them going.
During this activity I learned that I have this genuine connection with children and I love it. I have the ability to really communicate with them and see things the way they do.
Mr. Nigel Grant again helped me with this activity. He guided me through activities and softened the boys to me.
This project not only benefited the children and parents, but me as well. The kids were being healthy and active which made me and the parents happy. Not only that, but I was benefited gaining new friends who were quite cool to be around.
Next time though I would improve by having drills that were funner to do, and having and maybe a little bit more lenient. As far as friendship goes...I wouldn't change a thing.
I would apply this experience to everyday life situations. Learning things about people takes so much time. Even though they may not warm up to you doesn't mean they hate you...it just takes some time getting used to.
Title: International Fair Team Jamaica
Date: August 22, 2009
Hours: 10
Creativity, Action, Service
During the international fair, I helped to set up booths, clean up areas, and sell food to raise money for the event. I hoped to help spread the knowledge about Jamaica to others in the community. The fair was very successful. The only struggle was that sometimes there was not enough help so we had to find strategic ways to make things go productively. I learned that I sometimes it takes leadership when it’s needed. Mrs. Sharon helped me greatly to prepare the food and she taught me ways to organize and plan things so everything works out smoothly. The community enjoyed the fair and they were able to learn a little more about the country Jamaica. Next time, I hope there will be more volunteers to assist us in all of the tasks we have to complete. The skills I gain from this experience can help me to teach others about information they don’t know and to take leadership in areas that needs it.
Title: Organized tournaments
Date: October 16, 2009
Hours: 10
Creativity, Action
We planned the events that would happen during the tournament. We also filled out all the paperwork needed. I hoped to properly plan the soccer fames and we hoped that everything would go smoothly and as planned. The planning did go smoothly and was a great success. We completed all the work needed to be done. I learned that I like working in a group setting and taking leadership roles is something I like to do. Everyone was very helpful in planning. We all worked as a team and we were able to quickly and efficiently plan a tournament. The tournament planning was beneficial to the participants in the actual tournament because everything was so well organized. I think I would try to take a little bit more of a leadership role next time. Because of my shy nature, I did not, at first, begin to take a leadership role, but soon I realized that I should. I can apply my skills to bettering my business techniques for when I get an occupation.
Title: Church Clean Up
Date: December 11, 2009
Hours: 10
Service
During the clean up, I helped to organize the pantry where food is kept. I also helped to wash chairs and vacuum rooms. During the project, I hoped to obtain more organizational skills and build stronger bonds with my fellow member of Holy Cross. I think I was successful because we completed all the tasks we set out to do. There were not many difficulties that I faced except for the fact that the pantry was very disorganized. I learned that when many people come together for a common goal greatness can be achieved. Everyone was very helpful in teaching how to things. We all learned from each other about are different personalities and ways to achieve our goals. The church benefited greatly because it was easily for everyone to access the things needed in different areas because they were now organized. I don’t think I would do anything differently. The clean up was very successful. My organizational skills will help throughout my career and school life.
Title: Nursery Attendant
Date: April 3, 2010
Hours: 10
Creativity, Service
The children in the nursery of Holy Cross help to teach patience and understanding to all the volunteers. We enjoy many projects and adventures in the nursery. I hoped to obtain skills in working with children. I enjoyed working with kids so I hopefully wished this experience would be a joy… and it truly was. Sometimes there were times when the children chose to misbehave, but after we settled the difference, the experience was a great success. I learned that sometimes try to be prepared is not going to be successful because the unexpected is going to occur. Ce Ce Ware helped me a great deal. She was always there to help me when I was in a situation. The activity helped me to learn how the children though and hopefully they also learned a great deal from me. The next time I think I will try to plan a little better, and I will definitely expect the unexpected. I think I can apply the patience and perseverance I learned to life situations, because though two traits can take anyone far.

Title: Face painting
Date Completed: December 20009
Creativity
Total Hours: 5
Targeted Learning Outcomes:
4. worked collaboratively with others
5. planned and initiated activities
At the soccer field they, of course, play a lot of soccer games. Sometimes on Saturdays when there are tournaments of just an abundance of games a few students, along with myself, will go up to the field to paint the kids' faces and encourage them to do their best on and off the field.
This was a really basic activity. I wanted to make sure that all the kids had fun and were encouraged to do their best no matter if they won or lost.
I was successful in achieving my goals. The kids were generally happy and though there were a few who had lost their games they still smiled and kept on going with their day. It was challenging though, because kids know if they're good or not, and they have a tendency to bring themselves down. Though with a little encouragement and face paint its easy to overcome.
I didn't learn much about myself through this experience...I learned a lot more about children and how they interact with each other. Its like their little social experiments. Children tend to go against the norm more than usual. They seem to embrace individuality, but you can also see that they are slowly drifting towards conformity. It was an interesting thing to watch. If one child wanted a blue flower, then the next would want a blue flower with yellow glitter, and then the child before that would want red glitter. It was kind of funny also.
My friends pointed out to me how the children were acting. I actually thought about it for a very long time. My friends helped me with this eye-opening experience.
This activity benefited the children who were getting their face painted. We were encouraging them and talking to them. They seemed to enjoy the positive reinforcements.
Though next time, to improve it, I would like to have all sorts of things we could paint and draw. Almost like a mini-arts and crafts station. Nothing would be better.
I can apply what I've learned to the social behaviors of everyday life. People always seem to want to be individuals, but majority seem to conform without even knowing it. There are so many people wanting to be separate from everyone else that being separate is becoming the norm...the exact this the "loners" wanted to get away from.
Title: Young At Heart Luncheon
Date: April 11, 2010
Hours: 10
Service
During the luncheon, the participants were entertained with activities while they were served a bountiful lunch. I was a performer in the luncheon and I also led some of the activities during the luncheon. Through this project, I hoped to gain the experience of entertaining people during functions. I also hoped to obtain some skills in helping to deal with elderly people and activities they enjoy. I think my experience was very successful. I truly enjoyed the luncheon The only difficulty I had was trying to get over the fact that I am shy, but I finally realized that the people at the luncheon were just there to enjoy themselves and it did not matter if I messed up. I learned that it is okay to enjoy yourself even if you are embarrassed. I also learned that elderly people are fun to enjoy with. Mrs. Cecily Morgan helped me a lot to plan my activity during the luncheon. She is the president of the Young At Heart. I think that the elderly people enjoyed themselves. Next time, I will try to lead my activity in a faster and more productive way. I learned many ways to organize a luncheon and other activities for later in my life.
Title: Lovejoy Complex Concession Stand
Date: March 13, 2010
Hours: 10
Action, Service
Volunteering in the concession stand was an experience that allowed me to work with others while selling a product to raise money for the soccer complex. I hoped to learn the business of selling products and helping to run a business. I think the experience was both fun and successful. The only difficulty I faced was when crowds began to form it became a little more difficult. I learned that I work very well under an immense amount of pressure. Mrs. Sharon Usher helped me to find easier ways of selling the products quickly and efficiently to the customers. The activity helped to raise money for the soccer complex to expand it. I think I would try to split the work load a little bit more evenly next time. I can use these methods to run a store if I decide to own one in the future.
Title: Recreational Soccer
Date: September 19, 2009- November 14, 2009
Hours: 10
Action
During the soccer season, we experienced difficult times along with easy times which helped to strengthen out skills in playing soccer. I hoped to use soccer to learn to build a team and work collaboratively with others. This sometimes did not work because everyone did not agree all the time, but it turned out well in the end. I learned that I need to push myself harder and try not to give up too easily. Coach Al helped a lot to put the team together to help us with a common goal. It helped to form great friendships and people with great chemistry on the soccer field. I can use these tools to help me get through tough situations.
Title: Drama Club
Date: April 12, 2010
Hours: 10
Creativity Action Service
During my time in the drama club, we learned different styles of acting and attempted to perform to audiences to help raise money for the club and other charities. I hoped to experience new forms of acting techniques along with breaking out my shell and performing in front of an audience. It was very successful. The only problem was that people were not willing to cooperate at times but finally all arguments were settled. I learned that perseverance can take you far. Mrs. Brakebill helped a lot with everything we needed for the club. It entertained others while giving us a chance to raise money for ourselves and for charity. I think I want to perform more plays next year than we did this year. I can show my skill if I want to perform in plays for organizations.
Title: Soccer (Varsity) High School
Date: April 10, 2010
Hours: 10
Action
During the soccer season, I learned to build up fundamentgals to help me obtain the skills to master the sport soccer. I hoped to better my ability to play soccer by testing my endurance, trying new exercises, and performing well during games. I think I was successful my only difficulty was that sometimes when I did not succeed I wanted to give up. I learned that with perseverance anything can be achieved. Coach Welsh helped me greatly to continue to do my drills even when I tried to give up. This activity helped the people on the team learn to work as a team and learn to fight for a common goal. I don’t think I would improve anything next time except trying harder next time. I can learn to never give up during tough times in my life.
Title: Feed the Hungry (Holy Cross)
Date: December 19, 2009
Hours: 10
Creativity Action Service
During my adventures in feeding the hungry at Holy Cross I helped to raise money and food for the homeless and in need of the community. I hoped to help someone greatly and bring hope to their lives because we are in a recession. I think the activity was successful. The only difficulty was that when we ran out of food I felt terribly for the families who could not be helped. I learned to treasure my life because I am truly privileged to have all of the opportunities and possession I have. Erica was very helpful throughout the whole experience. She helped me to realize that I need to be grateful for what I have. The families that will be helped will hopefully benefit greatly from the experience. Next time, I think we should have more food so that we can help even more families. I can help other charities to give food to those who need it in life situations so that we can help make the world a better place.
Title: Face Painting
Date: April 2, 2010
Hours: 10
Creativity, Service
I painted the children’s faces while helping to raise money for the soccer complex and the teams that play in the complex. I wanted to accomplish the task of being more creative with children and design. The event was very successful. I wish, though, that I could have known more creative ways to put designs on the children’s faces. Soon I began to use my imagination to guide my creativity and it turned out well. I learned that I can do things that I never thought I could. I built a lot more confidence in my creativity skills. My friend Karen helped me greatly throughout this event because she helped me to realize that creativity is something that comes from within. I think next time I will be more outspoken and invite more people to bring their children to get their faces painted. I have learned to be more confident in myself through this whole experience.
Title: Contemporary Choir Fundraiser
Date: March 19, 2010
Hours: 10
Creativity, Service
During the dance, we helped to raise funds for the choir member’s robes. We served food and entertained the party attendants. I hoped to gain some skills in helping to run a fundraiser along with taking leadership roles in planning a party or event. I think the dance went well except for the instant when some volunteers did not show up on time. So to solve the problem we divided the excess work evenly. I learned that everyone is not going to agree all of the times. So we have to find away to understand that the only solution sometimes will be that we will always disagree. Ms. Tracey helped me a great deal. She helped me to neatly organize the food and set up the event properly. This project was a great success and I think the community and church enjoyed the fundraiser and it helped to raise money for the choir robes. Next time, I think we should find an easier and more proficient way of getting the food served for the party. I can use the organizational skills and managing and leadership skills I learned in the business world.

Title: Concession Stand Service
Date Completed: October 2009
Service
Total Hours: 10
Targeted Learning Outcomes:
1. increased awareness of strengths and areas of growth
2. undertaken new challenges
4. worked collaboratively with others
There is a lot of work that is always done at the soccer field by the school. One of the many things to do is the concession stand. It is the most "popular" attraction. Inside the stand there was constant communication from all parties, it was imperative that we continued to talk so that orders could be completed expeditiously.
Through this experience I wanted to accomplish a better sense of service for others. I wanted do as much for others as I could. It was a service project in my opinion.
I was very successful in achieving my goals. I felt as though I served people making their lives somewhat easier if only for a moment. The only thing I found difficult was the amount of work, but in the end it was all worth it.
I learned that I have strong perseverance when I am passionate about something. Not only that, but the others around me were helpful and encouraging as well.
Taylor and her sister helped me a lot with showing me how to operate the concession stand. They were the best.
Next time I would like to be more efficient so that I would be able to serve more people faster.
I can apply what I've learned to helping the world around me. It was a good experience to team up with others...to help others.

Title: Much to Ado about Nothing.
Date Completed: April 2009
Creativity
Total Hours: 2hrs 45mins
Targeted Learning Outcomes:
6. engaged with issues of global importance
In Mr. Etheridge's class we watched numerous amounts of Shakespearean movies as well as other movies that had literary impact. Watching the movie and interacting with my classmates about how the play was translated from play to movie was very fun.
Watching this movie I hoped to get a better since of Shakespearean plays and how other people direct them and see them.
I was successful in attaining my goal. In watching Much to Ado about Nothing I learned how other people besides myself translated the original play. It was an eye-opening experience. As a play writer myself and a visionary of how I would portray a piece of work I found it interesting that the director of the movie would do things that I wouldn't considered of done things that I would have.
I learned that my visions of certain pieces of work are easily altered because I may missed something or not have realized a certain detail from before.
Without Mr. Etheridge showing the video I would have not have realized the huge difference between play and film.
This experience benefited all the IB students because we saw a version of something that had done centuries ago. It was cultural experience.
Next time I would like to take notes to enhance the experience. Just to compare and contrast ideas.
I can apply the openness I've learned, and my new keener eye for detail in future projects that I hope to accomplish. Also using the idea of others to help me create the "big picture"

Title: Hamlet
Date Completed: October 2009
Creativity
Total Hours: 2hrs 25min
Targeted Learning Outcomes:
6. engaged in issues of global importance
Towards the middle of the first semester of my senior we read and watched Hamlet by Shakespeare. I watched and compared the play to the film.
Watching this movie I hoped to get the same thing that I had out of Much to Ado about Nothing months before so I was watching how the director translated the play.
I was successful in attaining my goal. In watching Hamlet I learned how other people besides myself translated the original play. One of the most interesting things was the delivery of the "To Be or Not To Be" speech. Watching it and reading it were too very different things. I imagined it differently, but I did like the way it was delivered.
I, again, learned that my visions of certain pieces of work are easily altered because I may missed something or not have realized a certain detail from before.
Mr. Etheridge was to thank again for letting us watch the movie.
This experience benefited all the IB students because it was cultural experience.
Next time I would have liked to have the play with me, to read the lines and stage directions as the film rolled.

Title: Of Mice and Men
Date Completed: 1st semester of Theory of Knowledge
Creativity
Total Hours: 2
Targeted Learning Outcomes:
6. engaged with issues of global importance
In Theory of Knowledge we watched many movies that dealt with controversial topics. One of the movies we watched were Of Mice of Men. The controversial topic was "mercy killing". In the case Of Mice of Men it was killing someone so that they wouldn't have to feel oncoming pain.
Through this experience I wanted to get a scenario about this particular issue. I wanted to see the reasons for the killing and if it was ethical.
I achieved this goal through and analysis of the situation. Though mercy killing isn't something I would consider it was nice to see a scenario of it.
I learned to be more open-minded and intended in a TOK class.
Ms.Mac was to thank for showing the movie.
This experience benefited my TOK class because it gave us a new outlook and perspective of this controversial topic.
The experience was so good that I wouldn't do anything to change it. There was open discussion and everything.
This experience can be used in other life situations because having an openness can lead the way to many open discussions and topics that could help in college.

Title: Frankenstein
Date Completed: First Semester TOK
Creativity
Total Hours: 2hrs 45mins
Targeted Learning Outcomes:
6. engaged in issues of global importance
7. considered the ethical implications of actions
In TOK, we debated the creation of life. Frankenstein seemed like the perfect to watch. The 7th period class watched this movie with me.
Out of this experience I wanted to gain another viewpoint of creation and what it means. Is it ethical or not? It was a classic story as well, and it was nice to see its translation to screen.
I achieved these goals with moderate success. I saw the controversy displayed back in those times and it mirrored such controversy that I would see today. The viewpoint on creation, to me has changed somewhat. Artificial Creation is happening everywhere, some see it as an act against God while others see it was scientific magnificence.
Ms. Mac allowed us to watch the movie...even though it scared her :).
This experience can apply to modern science, and the implications that go along with. The pro and cons. The controversy.

Title: The Matrix
Date Completed: 2nd Semester of TOK
Creativity
Total Hours: 2hrs 30mins
Targeted Learning Outcomes:
6. engaged with issues of global importance
7. considered the ethical implications of actions
Watching the Matrix in TOK class was one of my favorite experiences! I was very familiar with the movie and it was great TOK lesson. The Matrix was one of the most thought provoking movies ever made!
Watching the movie, yet another times, I wanted to gain another perspective of the movie in a more TOK essence. When I watched the movie before I never really dwelled on the thought-provoking quotes of the movie.
I reached my goals. Actually listening to what was being said and what "Matrix" really meant.
I gained a deeper thinking. After watching this movie I finally embraced the TOK thinking.
Thanks to Ms. Mac for letting us watch the movie and having an open discussion with us about the things we learned.
The activity benefited the entire class. Listening to lines such as "Reality: That world is a hoax, an elaborate deception spun by all-powerful machines of artificial intelligence that control us." is something really thought-provoking, which can benefit everyone.
I wouldn't change this experience for anything.
The experience to reality itself. Having thought provoking discussion can happen anytime. Just remember "There is no spoon."

Total Hours: 10
Targeted Learning Outcomes:
1. increased awareness of strength and areas of growth
2. undertaken new challenges
3. planned and initiated activities
4. worked collaboratively with others
8. developed new skills
Drama Club is something I've been active in every years of high school. This year I am president. I got together with a small group to discuss putting on plays and other thespian like things.
Out of this experience I wanted to gain a new sense of leadership. My acting skills have grown in the club, so to take control was a bit intimidating, but I welcomed a new challenge.
I was very successful at first. The club was thriving and everyone seemed interested in what we were doing. But as the season continued...less and less people started showing up. I looked pass and dropped members who weren't committed...unfortunately though the club...died.
I learned better organizational skills and how to work better with people who didn't quite share the same "vision" as me.
Thanks to Ms. Brakebill and letting the club use her room we were able to accomplish what we needed at the time.
The project benefited others because it gave them chances to improve their acting abilities and meet with a group of like-minded people.
Next time...I'll have more dedicated members. I love theater and drama! I wished there was more the club could have done. We could have been phenomenal!
I can apply to whenever I am looking to start something. I plan to that a lot so I will use what I learned with drama club and put it to use with other projects I'll do.

1. increased awareness of strengths and areas of growth

8. developed new skills
Drama Club was important to me, and though it died I still had time to work on plays for drama club. I wasn't the only writer, but I was the primary writer. The head honcho. During this first playwright I was on teen issues. The one I focused primarily on depression.
Through this activity I wanted people to know that depression wasn't just labeled with "emo" people. Depression affects everyone everywhere. I focused mostly on a teen age group, but I know depression can affect even the eldest person.
I accomplished my goals. Those that did read over the script thought I took a good approach to the subject. Which is exactly what I wanted.
I learned a lot about how I used my own problems to portray the main character's problems. There was a lot of self-reflection.
There was no one around to help me, this was a process I had to do by myself.
This did benefit others because they got a new outlook on the whole depression situation instead of just the traditional connotation of the word.
Next time, I would like to get more insight of what other people think of depression.
I can apply what I've learned during this experience to branch out and not take things for surface value. There is more to one subject than meets the eye.

House of the Spirits was written by Isabel Allende, who was Salvador Allende's niece. Her book focused on magic realism. Watching the movie was good to see all the changes made.
Out of this experience I wanted to gain a better since of the novel because I didn't quite...get it.
I accomplished that goal because the film actually did help me understand the book better, although some parts were missing.
Mr. Etheridge us watch it in his class, so thanks him I learned a lot.
The activity benefited the class because everyone learned from the film as they did from the book.

After I finished writing the play I took it took the Club for rehearsal and assigning parts. Our meetings became rehearsals.
I wanted the club to portray as I had intended it, powerful and going against the grain.
The club was successful in portraying what I needed them to do...that is until they stopped showing up and I had to cut out some parts. That wasn't fun.
I learned that I have a low tolerance for non-dedicated people, but have a reluctance to let them go because I don't want my play to fail.
Ms. Brakebill had patience with the club and everything they did.
This benefited others because they got a taste of real playwright and real theater instruction.
Next time I would hold open auditions for those who are actually dedicated.
I can apply what I learned from the club to future projects I want to do.

Targeted Learning Outcomes:
1. increased awareness of own strength and areas for growth
2. undertaken new challenges
4. worked collaboratively with others
On the Varsity Math Team at school we have to compete at GA Tech for an annual Math Competition.
Through this activity I wanted to gain new friends through competition, and meet others who were interested in the same things as me, and be open to those who aren't.
I accomplished greatly. There were so many new people to meet and interact with from all social backgrounds. There were so many awesome people.
I learned how others on the math team interact with others, and how others interact with me. Though sometimes smartness = awkwardness...and nerd jokes (I'll take you to your limit, if you show me your end behavior). Only at a math competition could someone get that kind of experience.
Ms. Pennebaker was helpful towards guiding through the competition and preparing us for the type of questions.
This benefited others because it gave an opportunity to open connections and new opportunities.
Next time I will prepare more so that we can to finals!!
I can apply what I've learned at the math competition to my future college life.

Action, Service
Total Hours: 9
Targeted Learning Outcomes:
1. increased awareness of strength and areas of growth
3. planned and initiated activities
4. worked collaboratively with others
The ING Marathon (INGM)runs for different causes. I was apart of the St. Jude team hydration station to pass out water and Gatorade to runners, as well as help with clean-up afterward.
I wanted to really get a since of service out of this. The runners worked so hard to raise awareness and money for specific causes and it felt so good to serve them. So I would say that also achieved my goal. Handing them water was a wonderful thing as well as cheering them on. Though I learned that I got agitated really quickly with the runners. I was a little agitated because when the runners were finished drinking the water or Gatorade they were throwing the cups on the side of the road, which was majority of the clean-up. Not that I minded the clean-up...but there were trash-cans on the side of the road...I'm not saying for them to stop and throw it away, but they could at least slow down. It really bothered me, to the point where I started shouting "Go Green! There are trash cans right there!". I got over it though and decided that I would clean the earth and let them run for their cause.
Sasha Jennings was the coordinator and she helped a lot.
The activity benefited others because the runners were doing this for different causes to help people.
Next time to lessen the mess...I'll have more trash cans, but I would have more a system.
I can apply the service I learned for these important runners to servicing others. Everyone who wants to do something good for the world needs someone to help them out. Its good to be reminded of that sometimes.

Total Hours: 10

3. planned and initiated activities
4. worked collaboratively with others
6. engaged with issues of global importance
7. considered the ethical implications of actions
Green Day at the soccer field is an event that is held annually to promote a healthier environment by doing activities such as recycling and car-pooling or walking. This was my second Green Day and I enjoyed doing some of the same activities as last time.
This was my second Green Day, and they still helped so much.

The Shakespeare Festival is something that is held every year. It was something I've always wanted to do and this year I was proud to do it. We were putting on the play Macbeth, a Shakespeare classic.
Through this festival I planned to accomplish a new found love for Shakespeare, and the adaptations of the plays.
I accomplished these goals and more. There was a big problem because the festival is canceled and now the troop has to work around it.
I'm learning to master my thespian skills, and learn the skills of other.
Ms. Jackson was the troop leader. She was great and we even did yoga!
This activity could benefit others because it brings a new more modernized air of Shakespeare that really brings people together and makes them have a new appreciation for Shakespeare.
Next time, I would like to not have to festival canceled. What I would do differently however, is try to help write a group script for the play so that everyone puts themselves in the play and get a greater sense of accomplishment.
I can apply the perseverance I learned to everything in life. To keep going and trying like Ms. Jackson did when they told her the festival was canceled.

Soccer was something I've always been interested in. I've never really had the chance to play until this year. And although I tried for school soccer recreational soccer worked out better.
From this experience I wanted to obtain a healthier lifestyle and new bonds through teammates.
I am achieving the goals I set out. My lifestyle is healthier than before. Also my relationship with my teammate is amazing. We go to each other for everything.
I learned that I am lot more coordinated than I and others give myself credit for. I really am a team player and am always encouraging my teammates.
Nigel Grant is actually my coach, and he's a wonderful coach and a veteran soccer player himself. He was really helpful.
The activity benefited my team and me because it did lead us towards a healthier lifestyle and a closer relationship with one another.
I wouldn't change anything, but I do want others to be on the team so our experience can be greater.
I can apply the teamwork that I've learned to other team projects that may occur in the future. Also my healthier lifestyle will stay with me for the rest of my life.
My 20th blog, was my last. CAS was an eye-opening experience and all the paperwork and blogging taught me something within itself. This experience was definitely...unique. Thanks for everyone who had even the tiniest part in helping achieve my goal! Thanks!!

Maya Stewart - Activity 2
Activity: Modeling for Wellspring #1
Category: Creativity, Action, and Service
Date: January 20, 2010
Location: Church in Fayetteville
Hours: 6
Reflection:
In this project, I modeled for a non-profit organization called Wellspring Living which assists girls who have been abused, who have run away from home into prostitution, and who have been in other similar situations. I was delighted to be able to use my talents to help advertise for and promote Wellspring. This organization has changed the lives of many young girls and has prepared them to enter the world again in confidence. Mr project leader, Paul Bowley, was very impressed by my modeling and he recommended me for another shoot for their company. Even though I received no compensation, I was glad to model for a great cause.
Some difficulties I encountered with this project was fitting it into my busy schedule, but eventually, I put some things aside and allowed myself to volunteer for the full time of six hours, because they would need me. Through this project I have exercised my modeling abilities, interaction abilities, and social abilities. I also learned how to work with others and cooperate. Next time, to improve, I will try to give more of a variety in my modeling technique and make sure the photographers get exactly what they’re looking for so that Wellspring can portray the best image possible to promote their wonderful organization. I believe I did achieve all of the eight learning outcomes in this activity.

Activity: Chorus French Pronunciation Assistance
Category: Creativity, and Action
Date: May 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2010
Location: Lovejoy High School – Chorus Room
Hours: 3
Reflection:
In this activity I was given the opportunity to use one of my favorite skills – French. One day after my sister’s chorus practice, she notified me that her chorus had to sing a French song for their performance evaluation, but her chorus teacher, Mr. Ricks, was stumbling over the French pronunciation. When I heard this, I immediately went to Mr. Rick’s room and volunteered to help him and his students. I stayed an hour after school for three days and worked with the students, in groups and individually, to ensure that they know how to pronounce the words so that Lovejoy chorus can receive great scores at performance evaluation, as it is known that judges deduct points for incorrect pronunciation.
On the last day of working with the students and chorus teacher, I recorded myself saying the words to the song so that they can refer to the pronunciations if needed in later situations. I was proud to be able to help the chorus, and I did learn some new words and pronunciation techniques while doing this. I also referred to my French teacher to ensure that what I was telling the chorus was accurate. I can apply the new words that I learned in other life situations and possibly use what I learned to communicate with those who only speak French. I thank my sister for helping me through the process and sharing her experiences in chorus with me. I’m also glad that the chorus did receive great scores at performance evaluation (all ones and one two). The main learning outcomes achieved in this project is as followed: I increased my awareness of my strengths and areas for growth, undertook new challenges, worked collaboratively with others, showed perseverance and commitment in my activities, and developed new skills.
Maya Stewart - Activity 4
Activity: Senior Picnic Organization
Category: Creativity, Action, and Service
Date: May 12, 2010
Location: Lovejoy High School – Senior Courtyard
Hours: 6
Reflection:
In this activity, I worked with others to help prepare for the Honor Grad Picnic. During this activity I learned to cooperate with others, use my creative skills to decorate the courtyard, and make sure conditions were safe for the seniors to eat and the adults to cook. We decorated the courtyard by covering the dull windows with colorful materials, placing colorful paper lanterns on the trees, and covering the tables with eye-catching tablecloths. We even helped the environment by using solar powered objects instead of consuming electricity. We also cleaned the courtyard to ensure that the seniors had a healthy environment to eat in. We also assisted the seniors when they needed help, such as providing extra chairs for them to sit in and serving them food. I’m sure the seniors had a great time socializing outside because of our efforts.
In this activity, I achieved all eight of the learning outcomes, but mostly planned and initiated activities, worked collaboratively with others, and undertook new challenges.

Maya Stewart - Activity 5
Activity: Project Recycle
Category: Service and action
Date: May 13th, 2010
Location: Lovejoy High School – Sports Field
Hours: 3
Reflection:
For this activity, the Junior Marshalls and I recycled water bottles and other trash that was left on the football field after the Powderpuff games. We also put up signs to urge students to recycle their trash instead of littering. We continuously recycled trash throughout the game and after the game. I believe I achieved six of the learning outcomes, especially engaging with issues of global importance.
I increased my awareness of strengths and areas for growth and undertook new challenges by enduring the spring heat to help keep the field neat and clean. We (junior marshals) planned and worked together to initiate this activity as we realized the polluted state of the football field. I worked collaboratively with others by communicating with the other junior marshal members to get the job done. We showed perseverance and commitment to the activity by cleaning until almost all litter was removed. Most of all, we engaged in issues of global importance by helping the environment to thrive.
Maya Stewart – Activity 6
Activity: Field Day Aid
Category: Service and Action
Date: May 14th, 2010
Location: Lovejoy High School – Sports Field
Hours: 5
Reflection:
In this activity, I helped prepare the sports field for field day, keep order at field day, and serve food for the seniors attending field day. This included setting up tables, spreading table cloths across the tables, setting up the food to be served at field day, and gathering materials that were needed outside such as coolers, bottled water, and ice. I also made sure that the students didn’t take unfair amounts of food when being served so that other students can have the chance to eat a full meal and feel energized while they engage in field day activities.
I definitely worked collaboratively with others in this activity by communicating with others who were serving food and working together with other students to bring materials outside. I also developed new social skills and considered the ethical implications of my actions when serving food by making sure everyone had an equal opportunity to receive a decent amount of food, napkins, and utensils. Lastly, I showed perseverance and commitment by staying outside for my full shift despite the hot and windy weather conditions. Thus, I achieved four of the eight learning outcomes in this activity.
Maya Stewart – Activity 7
Activity: Attendance Office Duty
Category: Service
Date: May 14th and 17th, 2010
Location: Lovejoy High School – Attendance Office
Hours: 4
Reflection:
On the last weeks of school, seniors are usually not available to do their duties around the school. One of those duties is attendance office aid. As a result of the lack of aid in the attendance office, a few students and I volunteered to work in the attendance office. This duty included distributing tardy slips to tardy students, checking in and checking out students, and organizing the absence excuses so that they can be easily located. This relieved a lot of stress off of the secretaries who were very loaded with work already, and we were able to learn new things through this activity.
The learning outcomes achieved in this activity are numbers 2, 4, 5, and 8. I undertook new challenges when the printer used to print the passes stopped working. Because of this, I had to leave the room to get passes for the students while the windows were filled with students demanding passes. I worked collaboratively with the others who were working in the office by helping them to complete tasks and cooperating with them. I showed perseverance and commitment by staying in the office until the end of the school day. Lastly, I developed new skills by learning the basics of operating the attendance computer.
Maya Stewart – Activity 8
Activity: Modeling for Wellspring #2
Category: Creativity, Service, and Action
Date: May 25th, 2010
Location: Recreation Center in Peachtree City
Hours: 6
Reflection:
For this activity, I modeled again for Wellspring Living for their advertisements. As described in my previous post about modeling for wellspring, this ad goes towards combating human trafficking in Metro Atlanta. Wellspring’s mission is to show girls the way to a better life and through my modeling, I have helped promote their mission. We did several shots outside and inside the recreation center to show different scenes and situations. This activity was non-profit and I was glad I could help promote this nonprofit organization that is helping to make the world a better place.
In this activity, I increased my awareness of my own strengths and areas for growth by improving my posing methods. I also worked collaboratively with the other models and the photographers and fulfilled the photographer and the project leader’s needs. I did engage with issues of global importance because my modeling went towards assisting those who are in dire need of motivation and help. Therefore, I fulfilled three of the eight learning outcomes (#’s 1, 4, and 6)
Maya Stewart – Activity 9
Activity: Library Aid
Category: Service
Date: May 25th and 26th, 2010
Location: Lovejoy High School - Library
Hours: 10
Reflection:
Again, the seniors were not able to fulfill their duties in the library because of senior week, so a couple others and I opted to aid the librarians. We did regular library duties such as checking in books, putting them away, making sure students had passes, laminating papers for teachers, distributing notices for teachers who owed the library books, and helping students who had problems with the computers and printer. I developed a lot of different skills, such as being more familiar with the Dewey Decimal System and learning how to operate machines in the library. I worked collaboratively with other students who volunteered and the librarians who presided over us. We also considered ethical issues concerning students without passes and learning how to handle different situations.
Overall, I achieved a lot in this activity and enjoyed working in the library. I completed number 4, 7, and 8 of the eight learning outcomes.
Maya Stewart – Activity 10
Activity: Graduation Preparation
Category: Creativity, Service, and Action
Date: May 25th, 26th, and 27th, 2010
Location: Lovejoy High School
Hours: 7
Reflection:
In this activity, I helped prepare for graduation by helping to create passes for the faculty and staff attending graduation, as well as the junior marshals. I also attended graduation practice and organized cards in order that were handed out to the students so that they will know how to line up and get seated. Afterwards, I cut out bunches of laminated cards to be used at practice the next day. We (junior marshals) also held up the signs at graduation practice, directing the seniors to their seats. In addition to that, I helped connect lanyards to all the cards that I stamped out.
Overall, the junior marshals and I directed the seniors to where they should go for graduation practice and help prepare them for a great graduation. In this activity I achieved 6 of the 8 learning outcomes (# 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8) which are followed: increased awareness of my own strengths and areas for growth, undertook new challenges, planned and initiated activities, worked collaboratively with others, showed perseverance and commitment in my activity, and developed new skills.
Maya Stewart – Activity 11
Activity: Ushering Graduation
Category: Service and Action
Date: May 28th, 2010
Location: Georgia Dome
Hours: 3
Reflection:
This was the last junior marshal activity of the school year – ushering graduation. In this activity, we (junior marshals) passed out the programs to those seating in the audience and we greeted family members who were passing by. We helped the seniors to get organized as they were standing in line and worked behind the scenes to make sure everything was going as planned. I did undertake new challenges in this activity, consider ethical implications of my actions, and work collaboratively with others as I completed this activity. Therefore, I achieved 3 of the 8 learning outcomes (#2, 4, and 8).
This entry is for Mrs. Dillard. Last time I saw you at school, you said that we would have to give you the proposal first before actually beginning the activity. I've started volunteering at the hospital where I do different things such as make kits for the babies in the nursery and discharge patients. I go every Sunday from 9am to 1pm and this will be until August. I think that is enough information for the proposal. I just need your approval.

When I first arrived with my peers, there was much help needed, and we got right to work. I ran the arts and crafts station and help children as well as adults to decorate things such as ornaments and picture frames. In this event, I would say that I definitely worked well with others. There were many nice people that I interacted with that made this really fun. This also allowed me to develop new skills since I’m not a very open person with strangers. Lastly, when times were busy and hectic, my peers and I showed perseverance and commitment in helping our community until the very end of the event.

I’ve been attending this church every Sunday since I was pretty much born. Actively, I’ve also been a part of the youth group that is available for the children on the church. This money has significantly helped all of the children have a fun and enjoyable time in the safe environment that the church provides. Throughout this experience, I believe that I engaged with issues of global importance since it benefited not only the kids surrounding me but also myself. I have developed new skills and worked collaboratively with other as well.
Activity: 7
Date: January – February 2010, Every Thursday
Event: Middle School Remediation - Tutoring
Location: Lovejoy Middle School
Hours: 10
I was approached by one of my teachers to help tutor and teach a group of kids at Lovejoy Middle School as part of their remediation program. I thought that this was a wonderful way to give back to the community and share the things that I’ve learned in order to help the students who will soon be in my position in a few years. I helped tutored a classroom of students every Thursday for the months of January and February for two hours. I got to know a great bunch of kids and was able to learn from them as well. I grew a bit of an attachment to them while the program continued and it was sad to see it end. I think I greatly helped the students learning habits as well as their behavior. I was able to see their improvements each week and I would do it again if I had the chance.

Again as part of the Elite Scholars Club, my fellow club members and I took part in a local event in order to celebrate and raise awareness of the good that Martin Luther King, Jr. spread throughout the nation. We also wanted to let the people know that they also can play a part in making a change as MLK did so many years before. We marched down the street of Highway 85 along with many other groups of our community. We came together in the cold weather in order to spread the same message to people of all ages. We wanted to inspire these people and also recognize the change we can make as well. In this event, I think that I worked collaboratively with the other groups that participated and the people who came out to watch. My fellow club members and I also contributed to this fund with as much money as we could to increase the funds for this cause. I think that through this tragic event I learned to engage myself in issues of global importance by helping the people survive and get through a tough time in their lives. Also, the Elite Scholars Club decided to plan and initiate this coin drive and followed through with our commitment by showing perseverance. I also think that we considered ethical implication of our actions by setting a good example in our school to help a cause as great as the one that occurred.

Event: Relay for Life
Location:
Hours: 10+
The Elite Scholar Club decided to help gather participants for the cancer walk that was being held at the Drew Stadium. It was a walk that lasted overnight in order to raise money for the cause. We conducted another coin drive during the lunch hours of school to collect funds to donate as well as donating our own money. I definitely increased awareness of my own strengths and areas of growth because I am able to live each day healthy so I might as well help those who are struggling to help themselves. This was also a new challenge for me since I’ve never don’t a walk that lasted so long which also shows that I committed myself to this cause with my fellow club members.

Event: Classroom Clean-up
Location: Lovejoy High School
Hours: 7
Previously I helped clean-up the chemistry storage room, so in order to help again I decided to help clean the classroom as well. As the school year came to a close, my classmates and I wanted to help our teacher by cleaning and organizing the clutter and equipment that had been building up other the year. We recycled unwanted paper, we organized shelves, and we also cleaned science equipment throughout the course of one week. We planned and initiated this to help our teacher and lighten the load. We worked collaboratively together to get things done and showed perseverance when we wanted to stop. We also engaged ourselves with issues of global importance by cleaning our environment as well as recycling.
